YourBiology Gut+ probiotic

Here we will give a hands-on, tested review of YourBiology Gut+ probiotic. We’ll look into the benefits, ingredients, dosage, who should take it and whether I would recommend this premium probiotic supplement.

I’ll also talk about my personal experience taking it and how it helped my digestion, and also talk about some of the things I didn’t notice which others might.

What is YourBiology Gut+ probiotic?

YourBiology Gut+ is a premium gut supplement with various ingredients beyond just probiotics.

It contains 10 strains of probiotics to give you a good amount of microbial diversity. As as key point of difference to other brands, it also contains prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D.

It is dairy-free, gluten-free and soy-free, and it is suitable for vegans.

This product is aimed at women, however anyone can take it.

Regular readers may notice that this review is quite similar to Biotics 8 - which is from the same brand but more aimed at men. The ingredients between the two are very similar, with different concentrations of certain probiotics.

Benefits of YourBiology Gut+ probiotic

Compared to other supplements which only include live cultures, YourBiology Gut+ offers more potentially beneficial ingredients.

Probiotics

YourBiology Gut+ includes 10 strains of live cultures:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus LA11-ONLLY

  • Bifidobacterium breve BB8

  • Lactobacillus plantarum LP-ONLLY

  • Lactobacillus paracasei LPC28

  • Lactobacillus fermentum LF33

  • Saccharomyces boulardii BLD-3

  • Lactobacillus casei LC18

  • Bifidobacterium bifidum BB47

  • Bifidobacterium longum BL88-Onlly

  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR22

I like that YourBiology lists specific strain codes (such as LR22) rather than only the species name. Multiple strains can exist within the same species, and their characteristics may differ. This means you know exactly what you are getting when you take YourBiology. Not all probiotic supplements provide this level of detail.

Collectively, these strains provide 20 billion colony forming units per three-capsule serving.

In comparison to Biotics 8, some strains in YourBiology Gut+ have higher concentrations (Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus fermentum, Saccharomyces boulardii) and some lower (Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus).

Prebiotics

Prebiotics are selectively fermented fibres that nourish beneficial gut bacteria and support a healthy microbiome.

This supplement contains two prebiotic fibres, inulin and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). Including more than one type can be beneficial because different prebiotics selectively stimulate different beneficial gut bacteria.

Read more about the benefits of prebiotics.

Digestive enzymes

Digestive enzymes help break down fats, carbohydrates and proteins into smaller molecules that can be absorbed more efficiently. This can support digestion and may reduce symptoms such as bloating or discomfort in people who have difficulty digesting certain foods.

YourBiology Gut+ includes three digestive enzymes:

  • Lipase – breaks down dietary fats into fatty acids and glycerol, supporting fat digestion

  • Amylase – breaks down carbohydrates (particularly starch) into simple sugars, supporting carbohydrate digestion

  • Protease – breaks down proteins into amino acids, supporting protein digestion and absorption

Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays an important role in immune regulation and maintaining the integrity of the intestinal lining, both of which support overall gut health.

It contributes in several ways:

  • Immune modulation – helps regulate immune responses and supports normal inflammatory balance in the gut

  • Supports gut lining integrity – contributes to maintaining tight junctions in the intestinal wall, supporting barrier function

  • Interaction with the microbiome – emerging research suggests vitamin D status may influence the composition and activity of gut bacteria

Getting to your gut

YourBiology Gut+ uses vegan capsules which are stronger than ones made of gelatin. This means it is designed to pass through the acidic environment in our stomach before releasing the probiotics.

Covering more bases

One thing I admire about YourBiology is that it is a multifaceted product which covers various aspects of gut health. This means that it is more likely to be of benefit to you than most other brands.

Various factors can cause gut issues and often it isn’t immediately clear what those are. Since YourBiology includes probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D it is more likely to be of benefit to you than a product with only probiotics - because probiotics might not be the solution to your issues.

YourBiology Gut+ probiotic dosing directions

Dosing

The dosing guidelines say to slowly increase the daily intake from 1 to 3 capsules to give your gut time to adjust.

I would recommend following this as some people’s guts initially react to supplements in a way which can cause discomfort for a while before usually settling down.

As the picture below shows, the capsules are a regular size and are easy to swallow.

My experience taking YourBiology Gut+

I would say that the main thing I noticed after taking YourBiology Gut+ was improved digestion - most likely from the prebiotics and digestive enzymes. I noticed that meals settled quicker and I felt less bloated.

Personally, I didn’t notice a sea change in gut health because my gut health was already in pretty good shape. I expect I would have noticed a bigger improvement had my gut health been poor prior to taking it - which I assume is the position most people are in when choosing this supplement.

Who should take YourBiology Gut+ probiotic

As I mentioned, YourBiology Gut+ is designed for women, but really anyone can take it.

I would say it is best for people who are currently experiencing poor gut health or for people who have tried probiotic supplements before (which only include probiotics) and have seen little benefit from that.

YourBiology Gut+ offers a more holistic solution by combining probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D.

However, YourBiology would not be for people on a budget.

Money-back guarantee

Another selling point of YourBiology Gut+ is that they offer a 60-day money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied.

This kind of full-refund guarantee is not common among probiotics.

Cost of YourBiology Gut+ probiotic

YourBiology Gut+ is more expensive than some other probiotics because it is a premium and multi-faceted gut health product that also includes prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D.

Prices vary from country to country so it’s best to check their website for current offers. And they offer a 15% discount on subscriptions.

Considering they offer a money-back guarantee, it seems like a risk-free way to trial something which might be very beneficial to you.

But honestly, the cost is the biggest downside to YourBiology Gut+.

Summary

Rating: 4.75 stars out of 5.

Verdict: YourBiology Gut+ not only offers 10 strains of probiotics, but also includes two types of prebiotics, three digestive enzymes and vitamin D for gut health support. All this means it offers a lot more than most probiotic supplements do. However, as you might expect, this comes at a premium price.

Pros

  • offers a more holistic gut health solution than most probiotic supplements

  • 10 strains of probiotics

  • 2 types of prebiotics

  • 3 digestive enzymes

  • 20 billion colony forming units per serving

  • strong vegan capsules designed to make it though the stomach before breaking down

  • they offer a 60-day money-back guarantee

Cons

  • comes as a premium price

  • even though having 10 strains of live cultures is very good, some broad spectrum supplements provide more

Factors we consider in our ratings

The factors we consider when doing a review (and the weightings of each of these) may vary depending on the product we are testing, but here are the key general factors we consider when we settle on a rating for a product.

Evidence and authorised claims

We explain what’s in the product and what the evidence actually supports. Where it’s relevant, we stick to authorised nutrition and health claim wording and we link to reputable sources so you can read further if you want to.

Potential downsides and who it may not suit

We flag ingredients or features that may be a drawback for some people, even if the product suits others. This can include sweeteners, additives, caffeine, high sugar, allergens, unusually high doses of certain nutrients, or anything else worth considering before you buy.

How it’s made

This will vary depending on the product, but we want to see a quality process for making it and quality ingredients. For example, we want to see a kombucha traditionally fermented with lots of different microbial strains and we want to see a yoghurt made with fresh milk and not milk powders.

Price

While we expect quality products to be more expensive, they still have to be priced within reason. On the other side of things, a product which is priced very competitively will get a ratings boost based on the value it provides.

Flavour

For some products flavour won’t be a factor (eg probiotic tablets), but for others, like yoghurt or kimchi, flavour is a key aspect because these products are made to be enjoyed as well as being healthy! We will try to be as subjective as possible and describe the flavour in detail so you can get an idea of whether you would like it or not.
