Benefits of Life Space broad spectrum probiotic
Compared to other probiotic supplements, the main benefits of this probiotic - as the name suggests - is that it contains a wide range of probiotics.
Probiotics
Probiotics are live cultures (usually bacteria) which have been proven to give us health benefits.
Life Space broad spectrum probiotic includes 15 probiotic strains. Having a broad spectrum of probiotics is important because each strain brings its own unique health benefits.
The particular strains included in this supplement and their benefits are:
Lactobacillus rhamnosus Lr-32 – Contributes to maintaining a balanced gut microbiota and supports immune health.
Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04 – Enhances immune function and may reduce the risk of respiratory infections.
Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-115 – Aids in maintaining intestinal barrier integrity and alleviating gastrointestinal discomfort.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG – Supports digestive health and helps reduce antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Streptococcus thermophilus St-21 – Assists in lactose digestion and supports gut health.
Lactobacillus casei Lc-11 – Promotes a balanced gut microbiota and supports immune health.
Lactobacillus paracasei Lpc-37 – May help reduce stress-related symptoms and support mental wellbeing.
Bifidobacterium animalis ssp. lactis HN019 – Improves bowel regularity and supports digestive health.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 – Supports immune function and may reduce the risk of eczema.
Bifidobacterium breve Bb-18 – Helps alleviate constipation and supports gut health.
Bifidobacterium longum Bl-05 – Contributes to maintaining a healthy gut microbiota and supports immune function.
Lactobacillus gasseri Lg-36 – May assist in weight management and support metabolic health.
Bifidobacterium infantis Bi-26 – Improves gut barrier function and may alleviate symptoms of IBS.
Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus Lb-87 – Aids in lactose digestion and supports a healthy gut environment.
Lactobacillus reuteri 1E1 – Supports oral health and may reduce dental plaque formation.
Collectively, these strains provide 32 billion colony forming units per capsule.
The strains are not in equal concentration though, with those at the top of the list being most plentiful and those at the bottom the least plentiful.
Dosing
The dosing guidelines are 1 capsule per day with water.
As the picture a bit below shows, the capsules are a small size compared to some other brands.
Cost of Life Space broad spectrum probiotic
Life Space is widely available in Australia including supermarkets, chemists and on Amazon AU.
Easily the best pricing seems to be on Amazon - with a 60-pack costing $30. This regular pricing beats the supermarkets and Chemist Warehouse - even when those have it on special.
Would I recommend Life Space broad spectrum probiotic?
Life Space is a good probiotic in terms of the amount of strains it includes. However, it is only a probiotic and doesn’t include prebiotics or digestive enzymes as some other brands do (such as YourBiology Gut+).
Therefore, I don’t think Life Space would be the best choice for someone with a gut in poor shape as it doesn’t have enough benefits to provide a gut reset. For this I’d recommend FixBIOME, followed by YourBiology Gut+.
However, given the cheaper price of Life Space, it might be a good choice for someone who wants to take probiotics on an ongoing basis. Personally, I think this is overkill though for most people. I’d suggest a medium course of probiotics - combined and followed with a focus on eating better.
Summary
Rating: 4.25 stars out of 5.
Verdict: Life Space broad spectrum probiotic offers an impressive 15 strains of probiotics for a reasonable price. However, it doesn’t offer anything else like prebiotics or digestive enzymes.
Pros
15 strains of probiotics
32 billion colony forming units per capsule
cheaper than others
Cons
no prebiotics or digestive enzymes (which some alternatives offer)
no information on how well the probiotics survive your stomach acid to get to your lower gut alive
Factors we consider in our ratings
The factors we consider when doing a review (and the weightings of each of these) may vary depending on the product we are testing, but here are the key general factors we consider when we settle on a rating for a product.
Health benefits
We find out how the product will be good for your health and outline the benefits for you in simple language. This often involves doing research so you don’t have to. We often link to scientific studies or articles summarising scientific findings so you can dig deeper if you want to.
Things detrimental to health
We want to highlight where a product might include something bad for your health - even if it might be good for you in another way. This could include such things as pointing out certain additives it contains or high sugar levels.
How its made
This will vary depending on the product, but we want to see a quality process for making it and quality ingredients. For example, we want to see a kombucha traditionally fermented with lots of different microbial strains and we want to see a yoghurt made with fresh milk and not milk powders.
Price
While we expect quality products to be more expensive, they still have to be priced within reason. On the other side of things, a product which is priced very competitively will get a ratings boost based on the value it provides.
Flavour
For some products flavour won’t be a factor (eg probiotic tablets), but for others, like yoghurt or kimchi, flavour is a key aspect because these products are made to be enjoyed as well as being healthy! We will try to be as subjective as possible and describe the flavour in detail so you can get an idea of whether you would like it or not.
