What is Biotics 8 probiotic?

Biotic 8 is a premium gut supplement with various ingredients beyond just probiotics to improve gut health and general health.

It contains 10 strains of probiotics to give you a good amount of microbial diversity. As as key point of difference to other brands, it also contains prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D.

It is dairy-free, gluten-free and preservative-free.

It is aimed at men, however anyone can take it.

Regular readers may notice that this review is quite similar to YourBiology Gut+ - which is from the same brand but more aimed at women. The ingredients between the two are very similar, with different concentrations of certain probiotics.

Benefits of Biotics 8 probiotic

Compared to other probiotic supplements which only include probiotics, Biotics 8 offers many benefits for the gut and general health.

Probiotics

Probiotics are live cultures (usually bacteria) which have been proven to give us health benefits.

Biotics 8 includes 10 probiotic strains with varying health benefits.

The strains and their benefits are:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus – Supports digestion and helps maintain intestinal health.

  • Lactobacillus casei – Aids lactose digestion and supports immune function.

  • Lactobacillus paracasei – Helps reduce inflammation and supports gut barrier integrity.

  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus – Known for preventing diarrhoea and supporting immune health.

  • Lactobacillus plantarum – Promotes gut healing and helps reduce bloating and gas.

  • Lactobacillus fermentum – Offers antioxidant benefits and supports respiratory health.

  • Bifidobacterium longum – Helps balance gut flora and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

  • Bifidobacterium bifidum – Aids in breaking down food and absorbing nutrients.

  • Bifidobacterium breve – Supports skin and gut health.

  • Saccharomyces boulardii – A probiotic yeast that helps prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and supports gut lining repair.

Collectively, these strains provide 20 billion colony forming units per three-capsule serving.

In contrast to YourBiology Gut+, each of the strains included in this supplement are in equal proportion.

Prebiotics

Prebiotics are essentially fibres which promote the growth of probiotics (ie beneficial microbes) in the gut.

This supplement contains two types of prebiotic fibre in the form of inulin and fructooligosaccharides (commonly known as FOS). It’s good to see two types of prebiotics as different prebiotics favour different probiotic strains.

Digestive enzymes

These enzymes reduce the digestive burden on your gut which allows probiotics to more effectively colonise the gut and support gut repair.

Biotics 8 includes three types of enzymes for holistic digestion benefit:

  • Lipase - Breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol. This can help reducing bloating or oily stools

  • Amylase - Breaks down carbohydrates (especially starch) into simple sugars. This helps reduce gas, bloating and digestive discomfort after starchy meals

  • Protease - Breaks down proteins into amino acids. This improves protein absorption and may reduce protein fermentation in the colon (which can cause gas or inflammation)

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps create a healthier, less inflamed environment where probiotics and digestive processes can function optimally.

It does this in the following ways:

  • Immune modulation: Vitamin D regulates the immune system and can reduce inflammation in the gut, which helps beneficial bacteria thrive

  • Supports gut lining integrity: Adequate vitamin D helps maintain tight junctions in the intestinal wall, reducing ‘leaky gut’ risk

  • Synergy with probiotics: Some studies suggest vitamin D may enhance probiotic colonisation by reducing hostile immune responses in the gut

Dosing

The dosing guidelines say to slowly increase the daily intake from 1 to 3 capsules to give your gut time to adjust.

I would recommend following this as some people’s guts initially react to supplements in a way which can cause discomfort for a while before usually settling down.

As the picture below shows, the capsules are a regular size and are easy to swallow.

Who should take Biotics 8 probiotic

As I mentioned, Biotics 8 is designed for men, but really anyone can take it.

I would say it is best for people who are currently experiencing poor gut health or for people who have tried probiotic supplements before (which only include probiotics) and have seen little benefit from that.

Biotics 8 offers a more holistic solution by combining probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D.

You might also consider trying it if you are currently experiencing poor mental clarity, low energy levels, poor skin health or poor immunity. This is because probiotics in general (but especially the strains chosen for Biotics 8) can influence these health issues.

You should also combine the start of your probiotics course with an improved diet if needed.

This could include:

  • Eating a wide variety of whole foods such vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds and fruits

  • Limiting processed foods

  • Drinking plenty of water daily

  • Limiting caffeine and alcohol

Cost of Biotics 8 probiotic

Biotics 8 is more expensive than some other probiotics because it is a premium and multi-faceted gut health product that also includes prebiotics, digestive enzymes and vitamin D.

Prices vary from country to country so it’s best to check their website for current pricing.

Summary

Rating: 4.75 stars out of 5.

Factors we consider in our ratings

The factors we consider when doing a review (and the weightings of each of these) may vary depending on the product we are testing, but here are the key general factors we consider when we settle on a rating for a product.

Health benefits

We find out how the product will be good for your health and outline the benefits for you in simple language. This often involves doing research so you don’t have to. We often link to scientific studies or articles summarising scientific findings so you can dig deeper if you want to.

Things detrimental to health

We want to highlight where a product might include something bad for your health - even if it might be good for you in another way. This could include such things as pointing out certain additives it contains or high sugar levels.

How its made

This will vary depending on the product, but we want to see a quality process for making it and quality ingredients. For example, we want to see a kombucha traditionally fermented with lots of different microbial strains and we want to see a yoghurt made with fresh milk and not milk powders.

Price

While we expect quality products to be more expensive, they still have to be priced within reason. On the other side of things, a product which is priced very competitively will get a ratings boost based on the value it provides.

Flavour

For some products flavour won’t be a factor (eg probiotic tablets), but for others, like yoghurt or kimchi, flavour is a key aspect because these products are made to be enjoyed as well as being healthy! We will try to be as subjective as possible and describe the flavour in detail so you can get an idea of whether you would like it or not.
