Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic review

Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic

Here we will give a hands-on, tested review of Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic. We’ll look into the benefits, ingredients, dosage and whether I would recommend this probiotic supplement.

We’ll also compare a few factors against our favourite probiotic in Australia which is YourBiology Gut+ probiotic.

What is Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic?

Inner Health makes a range of probiotics and this particular advanced spectrum probiotic is their most broad spectrum probiotic, meaning it contains the greatest number of different bacterial strains.

So this supplement isn’t to be confused with their very basic standard probiotic, Inner Health daily balance probiotic, which only contains one strain of probiotics…

Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic is available in Australia in Chemist Warehouse and online.

Unlike some other Inner Health probiotics, this supplement doesn’t need to be refrigerated.

It is also vegetarian friendly.

Benefits of Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic

This supplement comes with various benefits, some of which you might not expect from a probiotic. For context, we’ll compare some factors against YourBiology Gut+ probiotic which is a more premium, holistic supplement.

Probiotics

Probiotics are live cultures (usually bacteria) which have been proven to give us health benefits.

Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic includes nine strains of probiotics which are:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM – Supports digestive health, may help reduce occasional constipation and supports healthy immune function

  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG – Helps reduce the risk and duration of acute diarrhoea, supports healthy gut flora balance and may help maintain immune function

  • Bifidobacterium lactis Bl‑04 – Supports healthy immune function and may help reduce the risk of upper respiratory tract infections

  • Bifidobacterium lactis Bi‑07 – Supports digestive comfort, promotes healthy gut microbiota and may help reduce bloating in some individuals

  • Lactobacillus plantarum Lp‑115 – Supports healthy digestive function and may help maintain gut barrier integrity

  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 – Supports healthy immune function and may help reduce the risk of eczema in infants when taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis B‑420 – May help support healthy weight management when combined with diet and exercise and supports digestive health

  • Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 – Supports digestive health, promotes bowel regularity and may help reduce intestinal transit time

  • Lactobacillus paracasei Lpc‑37 – Supports immune health and may help reduce the frequency of upper respiratory tract infections

Collectively, these strains provide 36 billion colony forming units per capsule.

In contrast, YourBiology Gut+ probiotic includes 10 different probiotic strains and provides 20 billion colony forming units.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps create a healthier, less inflamed environment where probiotics and digestive processes can function optimally.

It does this in the following ways:

  • Immune modulation: Vitamin D regulates the immune system and can reduce inflammation in the gut, which helps beneficial bacteria thrive

  • Supports gut lining integrity: Adequate vitamin D helps maintain tight junctions in the intestinal wall, reducing ‘leaky gut’ risk

  • Synergy with probiotics: Some studies suggest vitamin D may enhance probiotic colonisation by reducing hostile immune responses in the gut

B vitamins

Unlike most other probiotic supplements, this supplement includes vitamins B1 (thiamine) and B2 (riboflavin).

In general, B vitamins support energy production throughout the body, however there are some gut-specific benefits these vitamins may bring such as:

  • Supporting the energy production your intestinal cells and muscles need for digestion and nutrient absorption

  • Helping maintain a healthy gut lining and mucous membranes

  • Acting as cofactors for enzymes that keep gut metabolism running smoothly

In summary, these vitamins make sure the gut has the fuel and tools it needs so the probiotics can do their job more effectively.

Dosing

The dosing guidelines are 1 capsule per day.

My experience taking it

As the picture below shows, the capsules are of a medium size and are easy to take. They are best taken with food to prevent any stomach upset.

Cost of Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic

Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic is available in Chemist Warehouse and perhaps other pharmacies too. It is also available online.

The recommended retail price for a 25-capsule pack is $37. While this is definitely not as cheap as others, I would say this price is fairly reasonable for what you get.

Swisse daily digestive probiotic tablets on a board

Would I recommend it?

Inner Health advanced spectrum probiotic is a decent choice for a probiotic and certainly offers better value than some lower-end options we have reviewed.

However, it doesn’t offer the full range of benefits which YourBiology Gut+ does, such as prebiotic fibre and digestive enzymes.

It is cheaper than YourBiology Gut+ though, so it might be a good choice for those looking to save money while still getting a good product.

Factors we consider in our ratings

The factors we consider when doing a review (and the weightings of each of these) may vary depending on the product we are testing, but here are the key general factors we consider when we settle on a rating for a product.

Health benefits

We find out how the product will be good for your health and outline the benefits for you in simple language. This often involves doing research so you don’t have to. We often link to scientific studies or articles summarising scientific findings so you can dig deeper if you want to.

Things detrimental to health

We want to highlight where a product might include something bad for your health - even if it might be good for you in another way. This could include such things as pointing out certain additives it contains or high sugar levels.

How its made

This will vary depending on the product, but we want to see a quality process for making it and quality ingredients. For example, we want to see a kombucha traditionally fermented with lots of different microbial strains and we want to see a yoghurt made with fresh milk and not milk powders.

Price

While we expect quality products to be more expensive, they still have to be priced within reason. On the other side of things, a product which is priced very competitively will get a ratings boost based on the value it provides.

Flavour

For some products flavour won’t be a factor (eg probiotic tablets), but for others, like yoghurt or kimchi, flavour is a key aspect because these products are made to be enjoyed as well as being healthy! We will try to be as subjective as possible and describe the flavour in detail so you can get an idea of whether you would like it or not.
